There is a growing need for home repairs in rural Champaign County.

Now, help is on the way for low-income families seeking assistance.

On March 24, 2022, the Champaign County Board approved $250,000 for the Central Illinois Land Bank Authority (CILBA).

The money will be used to fix exterior housing issues impacting families' health and safety, such as roof repairs or siding.

The group is focusing on smaller towns, which often have trouble receiving funding.

CILBA is also asking local leaders to help find those families in need.

"The county member from Kiwanis clubs or VFWs know the families that need help," said Mike Davis, CILBA executive director. "Our goal is to help those leaders of the communities identify those families and bring them into the program."

Applications are expected to open within the next month.
